The book was prepared as the basic text reference for a conference on arid land problems in Latin America, held in Argentina in September, 1963, under the auspices of UNESCO and CODAZR, the Committee on Desert and Arid Zone Research of the Rocky Mountain Division of the American Association for the advancement of science.
